Trade Compliance Specialist
Part-Time Position (3 Days Per Week)
Remote OR WFH Opportunity
The Trade Compliance Specialist will oversee all aspects of international trade compliance, including customs classification, import/export documentation review, and adherence to global trade regulations. This role is responsible for managing customs compliance activities, ensuring accurate documentation, classification, and interdepartmental coordination to minimize risk and reduce import-related costs. The ideal candidate will ensure our shipments meet all regulatory requirements, reduce delays, optimize customs processes, and achieve cost efficiencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed:
Document Control
- Ensure secure, centralized storage of technical drawings, vendor cost/pricing files, and material composition/origin details.
Customs Broker Liaison
- Serve as the internal point of contact for the customs broker.
- Review all documentation submitted to CBP for accuracy.
HTS Code, COO & Material Composition Management
- Maintain an up-to-date, version-controlled HTS & COO classification log.
- Coordinate with product and procurement teams to maintain accurate tariff codes.
- Conduct regular audits.
Post Summary Correction (PSC) Monitoring
- Identify errors in past shipments and determine financial recoveries.
- Coordinate PSC filings with broker.
- Track progress and ensure receipt of refunds where applicable.
Invoice & Entry Review
- Review customs invoices and entry summaries for HTS code accuracy, declared value, origin, and Incoterms.
- Flag and address inconsistencies.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration
- Partner with Global Procurement, USA Procurement, Finance, and Product Development to ensure teams provide necessary data for customs compliance.
Compliance Process Development
- Establish internal procedures for compliance documentation.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders as needed.
Compliance Risk Management
- Monitor trade updates and alert internal team to changes impacting duty rates or procedures.
- Recommend process improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
Deliverables
- Financial reporting on importing fees
- Maintenance of HTS code, COO & material composition database
- PSC status and refund tracking log
- Compliance document audit files
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in international trade compliance, customs brokerage, or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of HTS code classification, customs regulations, and international trade processes.
Skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in logistics and customs software (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS)
- Licensed Customs Broker
