Job Overview
The Manager, Trade Compliance is responsible for directing and overseeing the company’s global trade compliance program, ensuring adherence to international trade laws, regulations, and policies that impact the global supply chain. This role provides strategic guidance on customs compliance, tariffs, free trade agreements, and related legal requirements across the organization. In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert, developing and implementing trade compliance policies and procedures, while managing day-to-day compliance activities. You will also mentor and support the Trade Compliance Specialist, helping drive a culture of compliance.
What You Will Achieve
- Implement and manage export/import and customs compliance control policies, procedures, and resources through training programs, formal and informal communications, and process improvements.
- Oversee broker(s) used by the organization, monitor performance, address global service issues, ensure the development of standard operating procedures, and coordinate local audits.
- Oversee and manage an active FTZ zone, including day-to-day operations, filings, processes, and the technology platform.
- Spearhead the development and transition of a new FTZ, establish SOPs that drive efficiency, and maximize FTZ effectiveness within New Era’s supply chain, ensuring compliance with the IRS and CBP.
- Drive, develop, manage, and expand the USFS (U.S. First Sale Program) with New Era Supply Chain vendors.
- Ensure an HTS classification database is established and maintained; collaborate with the Product Engineering Manager and SBUs to resolve differing classification interpretations.
- Collaborate with foreign suppliers and regional business units to ensure timely export and import of goods in compliance with U.S. and local approvals.
- Support the U.S. C-TPAT and Customs Compliance program by working with key internal stakeholders, 3PLs, and Plant Managers (owned and contracted).
- Partner with the Logistics team to advise Global Sourcing on key issues and potential problems, including notices, penalties, and inquiries from Customs authorities; support resolution as required.
- Participate in scheduled site assessments and audits, ensuring timely completion of corrective actions.
- Respond to local and regional government inquiries related to import and export compliance, with support from Corporate Legal.
- Act as the organization’s import/export knowledge resource; assess the impact of regulatory changes and implement adjustments as necessary.
- Review global supply chain initiatives to minimize compliance risk and duty exposure.
- Identify and report customs values for all entries, ensure the proper application of duty-savings programs, and confirm that all site records comply with import/export laws and regulations.
- Ensure import, export, and related functional teams (purchasing, accounting, traffic, engineering, sales, etc.) receive compliance training; encourage and support participation across all sites.
- Work with the Logistics department to develop strategies that support internal and external business partners, including distribution infrastructure, trade lane alignment, proactive capacity planning, and system tool alignment.
- Provide direction and coaching to direct reports, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and fostering a culture of leadership and change management.
- Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Need
- Strong knowledge of U.S., regional, and global import and export laws.
- Financial/accounting background a plus.
- Customs Broker License or CCS certification preferred.
