About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Logistics Customs Expert with a strong background in preparing and submitting export declarations via ATLAS. The ideal candidate will ensure full compliance with German customs regulations, support daily export operations, and serve as a subject-matter expert on customs procedures and documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit export declarations in ATLAS in accordance with German and EU customs regulations.
- Coordinate end-to-end export processes, including document validation, classification, and shipment release.
- Verify product classifications (HS/KN codes), customs values, and required export control documentation.
- Ensure correct application of export waiver codes, licenses, permits, and other regulatory documents.
- Liaise with customs authorities, freight forwarders, and internal teams to resolve discrepancies or compliance issues.
- Maintain accurate records of all customs filings and ensure audit readiness.
- Monitor regulatory updates related to German and EU customs law and implement necessary changes.
- Support internal stakeholders with customs advisory, compliance checks, and operational troubleshooting.
- Identify opportunities to optimize processes and improve export compliance efficiency.
Requirements:
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in customs, logistics, or export operations in Germany.
- Proven hands-on experience with ATLAS (Abwicklung des Transports über das Automatisierte Zoll- und Abfertigungssystem) for export declarations.
- Strong knowledge of German and EU customs legislation, export controls, and Incoterms.
- Experience in HS/KN classification and knowledge of customs valuation principles.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external partners.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) is an advantage.
- Fluent in German; good command of English is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed vocational training as Customs Agent, Freight Forwarding Agent, or equivalent qualification.
- Experience with dual-use goods and export control processes.
- Knowledge of import processes and customs clearance for inbound shipments.
