Position Summary
The Import / Export Manager will lead international freight operations, ocean freight procurement, and trade compliance while managing a team of logistics coordinators. This role is responsible for quoting, negotiating, and executing global ocean freight and project cargo movements, developing and managing overseas agent networks, and ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple trade lanes.
The ideal candidate brings strong operational expertise, commercial negotiation skills, and leadership experience, with the ability to manage complex, high-value shipments for energy and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Global Freight Operations and Project Cargo
- Oversee end-to-end international shipments across ocean, air, and cross-border trucking
- Manage project cargo, heavy lift, OOG, and breakbulk movements
- Coordinate port operations, transloading, inland transport, and final-mile delivery
- Collaborate closely with EPCs, manufacturers, and project teams on execution timelines
Quoting, Procurement, and Rate Negotiation
- Lead global ocean freight pricing and quoting strategy
- Negotiate contract and spot rates with steamship lines, NVOCCs, and overseas agents
- Develop and maintain preferred carrier and agent relationships across Europe, Asia, the U.S., and Latin America
- Support sales and project teams with competitive and executable logistics solutions
- Monitor market trends, capacity, and pricing to protect margins and service levels
Trade Compliance and Documentation
- Oversee all international shipping documentation (commercial invoices, packing lists, B/L, AWB, COO, ISF, AES, permits, etc.)
- Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and international regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with customs brokers and regulatory partners
- Support audits, customer compliance requirements, and internal controls
Team Leadership and Process Management
- Manage and develop a team of logistics coordinators and operations staff
- Assign workloads, oversee execution, and provide training and mentorship
- Implement SOPs and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure service consistency across high-volume and project-based shipments
Systems and Financial Controls (CargoWise)
- Act as the operational owner of CargoWise processes and data integrity
- Ensure accurate job costing, billing triggers, and milestone tracking
- Improve workflows, templates, and reporting
- Partner with finance on revenue recognition and margin protection
Performance and Growth Support
- Track KPIs, cost controls, and service metrics
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies for large-scale projects
- Support scalability as international volumes expand
- Contribute to vendor strategy and long-term network development
Qualifications and Experience
Required:
- 5–8+ years of experience in international freight forwarding, project logistics, or import/export management
- Strong working knowledge of CargoWise
- Proven experience in ocean freight procurement and global quoting
- Experience negotiating with steamship lines and overseas agents
- Experience handling project cargo, OOG, and heavy equipment logistics
- Experience managing and mentoring logistics teams
- Solid understanding of international trade regulations and documentation
- Strong commercial, negotiation, and communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience in energy, renewables, power generation, data centers, or industrial construction logistics
- Established global agent or carrier network
- Experience supporting EPC- or manufacturer-driven supply chains
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or International Business
- Bilingual English/Spanish
