Job Overview
We are seeking a UK Customs Compliance Specialist. Based in London, this role will serve as the core customs expert for the UK market, responsible for managing customs classification of imported vehicles and aftermarket parts, overseeing customs compliance, optimising import clearance processes, and maintaining relationships with UK Customs. Ideal candidates should possess a solid automotive industry background, strong compliance execution skills, and keen insight into emerging market trends, enabling them to drive business growth within a dynamic international team.
Main Responsibilities
- Tariff Classification and Compliance Management:
Responsible for managing the customs commodity codes of vehicles and after-sales parts imported from China or other regions to the UK, ensuring compliance with UK and EU customs regulations. Ensure full compliance with import customs procedures, including customs declaration information, declared value, rules of origin, application of trade agreements, and tariff reductions. Conduct regular compliance internal audits and risk assessments, and update processes in a timely manner to address regulatory changes.
- Customs Relationship and Agency Management
As the company's primary liaison with UK customs, we establish and maintain proactive, professional official relationships. The service quality, performance and cost of import customs clearance agency are managed comprehensively and evaluated and optimized regularly. Handle customs inquiries, audits, and on-site inspections to ensure efficient communication and effective problem resolution.
- Process optimization and standardization
Maintain the import goods classification database, continuously optimize customs clearance procedures, and enhance the efficiency and accuracy of customs clearance at UK ports. Develop and update the import customs clearance operational manual and training materials, and conduct regular training for internal teams.
- Trade Policy Insights and Cross-Departmental Collaboration
Monitor regulatory developments in UK trade policies and emerging markets (e.g., electric vehicle supply chains) to provide forward-looking compliance advice for the company. Collaborate closely with logistics, finance, and sales teams to offer import customs support for new product launches and market expansion.
Job Requirements
- Education and experience: A bachelor's degree or higher is required, with preference given to majors in international trade, logistics management, or supply chain management.
- With 5 years of customs clearance experience in the automotive industry, well-versed in UK/EU import procedures and regulations. Candidates with expertise in vehicle and component classification are preferred.
- Professional skills: Understanding the UK Customs Code, rules of origin, and related trade agreements.
- Possesses expertise in import customs clearance agency management and external partner coordination.
- The ability to transform complex regulations into executable processes.
- Possesses excellent communication, coordination, and teamwork skills, along with a strong thirst for knowledge and learning ability.
- Proactively investigates new regulations, topics, and scenarios. Optimistic, confident, and extroverted, with strong stress resistance and adept at identifying and solving problems in complex environments.
- Demonstrate insight and interest in trade compliance challenges arising from emerging markets and new technologies. (e.g. electric vehicles)
- Mandarin language skills are preferred but not mandatory.
