About the Role
The Gate Superintendent is accountable for the overall performance, control, and optimization of gate operations within the terminal. This role goes beyond day-to-day supervision to actively drive operational efficiency, ensure system integrity, enhance throughput, and uphold compliance standards. The Gate Superintendent plays a key role in identifying bottlenecks, improving processes, and supporting the terminal’s productivity and service delivery objectives.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of end-to-end gate performance, ensuring efficient and uninterrupted flow of trucks, containers, and personnel
- Drive improvements in gate turnaround time, queue management, and throughput efficiency
- Ensure strict adherence to port regulations, customs compliance, and security protocols
- Act as the first line of operational control, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks and disruptions
- Oversee and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and proper use of gate systems and transaction data
- Analyse daily operations to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process optimization
- Coordinate closely with Gate Manager / Superintendent to align on performance targets and operational priorities
- Collaborate cross-functionally with terminal operations, planning, yard, logistics, and security teams to ensure seamless execution
- Lead, coach, and develop gate staff to achieve high levels of productivity, discipline, and accountability
- Ensure proper resource planning and workforce allocation based on operational demand
- Support implementation and continuous improvement of automation and digital solutions (RFID, OCR, ANPR, etc.)
- Manage and escalate system or operational risks impacting gate efficiency or compliance
- Prepare and present performance reports, insights, and improvement actions to management
- Enforce and promote a strong HSE culture, ensuring safe gate operations at all times
