As a Customs Specialist within the Global Business Services (GBS) Finance team, you will support customs compliance activities mainly for Germany. This hands-on role focuses on ensuring accurate and compliant import and export declarations in line with local regulations and corporate standards.
You will work closely with local markets, internal stakeholders, and customs brokers, support audits and ad hoc activities, and contribute to process improvements, automation, and standardization across the customs and statutory landscape.
Key responsibilities
- Reviewing export declarations prepared by JDE in Germany
- Reviewing customs declarations completed by third parties
- Calculating and checking customs duties and arranging payments
- Review material master data relevant for customs (e.g. origin, HS Codes, etc)
- Request and archive proof of origin from our vendors
- Support with reviewing the customs brokers to ensure that the outsourced customs requirements are correctly executed
- Support Local finance teams with customs audits and ad hoc projects
- Incorporate changes in customs laws and regulations, implement potential impacts and recommending necessary actions
- Collaborate with the local customs and duties manager to ensure full compliance with legal regulations and accuracy of Import and Export Declarations, Certificates of Origin, and Intrastat documentation
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Operations) to gather relevant data to ensure accuracy and completeness and advising other departments on customs law implications
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, driving automation and process standardization across the GBS tax and statutory landscape
Qualifications
- Completed commercial training, preferably as freight forwarding agent, logistics agent, or foreign trade agent
- 3-5 years of professional experience in the areas of customs and logistics in an industrial company or a freight forwarding company
- Very good knowledge of MS Office
- Good knowledge of SAP
- Very good English skills, German language skills are an advantage
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
