US Customs & International Trade Compliance Expert
Full-time | Assurance | Location – Olathe, KS
Are you a trade compliance expert who thrives on untangling the most complex regulatory puzzles? TVH is looking for a Senior Principal / Subject Matter Expert (SME) in US Customs & International Trade Compliance to anchor our technical capabilities in the Americas region.
This is a high-impact, Individual Contributor (IC) role designed for a professional with deep technical authority and strategic foresight. As our primary regulatory architect, you will possess the subject matter expertise to safeguard our operations while optimizing our global supply chain. Reporting locally to the US Compliance Manager and into our global structure—specifically to the Global Customs & Trade Compliance Manager or the VP Assurance in Belgium—you will act as the critical bridge between complex US statutory requirements and global corporate strategy.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Proactive Horizon Scanning: Continuously monitor, interpret, and perform rigorous impact analyses on evolving US and international customs and trade laws, including US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, Antidumping/Countervailing Duties (AD/CVD), Partner Government Agencies (PGAs), and export controls.
- Requirement Definement: Translate complex legislative updates and trade remedies into clear, strict, and actionable compliance requirements tailored to TVH’s extensive product portfolio.
- Strategic Advisory: Act as a trusted internal counsel to the Americas executive leadership and cross-functional teams, transforming dense legalities into agile business strategies that support continuity of operations.
Governance, Risk, & Audit Frameworks
- Framework Design: Design, implement, and oversee robust internal trade compliance audit frameworks and risk assessment methodologies to evaluate the health of TVH’s regional trade activities.
- Corrective Action Ownership: Lead complex regulatory investigations, oversee root-cause analysis, and establish systemic corrective action plans to mitigate compliance exposure.
- Technical Escalation: Serve as the definitive regional authority for complex customs valuation, tariff classification (HTSUS), and country-of-origin determination, ensuring a seamless escalation path to the US Compliance Manager and global Assurance leadership in Belgium.
C-TPAT Stewardship & Supply Chain Security
- Program Ownership: Take full strategic ownership of the maintenance, validation, and continuous optimization of TVH’s Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) status.
- Security Optimization: Design and implement robust supply chain security controls, ensuring total alignment, education, and compliance across global partners, vendors, and internal logistics infrastructure.
Collaboration & Organizational Advocacy
- Cross-Functional Synergy: Participate in and coordinate high-stakes enterprise projects, embedding strict compliance parameters from project definition through to final delivery.
- Compliance Advocacy: Actively champion and elevate trade compliance awareness across all levels of the Americas organization, equipping management and operational teams with the insights needed to conduct business with absolute integrity.
HOW TO SUCCEED / YOUR PROFILE
Technical Authority
- Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of dedicated experience in US customs regulations, international trade compliance, and trade remedies within a complex global supply chain or corporate environment.
- Credentials: A valid US Customs Broker License (LCB) or Certified US Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO) designation is highly preferred.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Authoritative knowledge of HTSUS classification, customs valuation, free trade agreements, PGA requirements, and C-TPAT program management.
- Systems Savvy: Proficiency with global trade management (GTM) software, advanced data analytics, and reporting tools to measure compliance performance metrics is considered a plus.
Advisory Mindset
- Solution-Oriented Architecture: Proven capability to not just identify regulatory hurdles, but engineer compliant, efficient, and elegant business solutions.
- Executive Communication: Exceptional interpersonal and articulation skills; the ability to distill complex legal structures into precise, respectful briefing metrics for both the Americas executive team and global leadership in Belgium.
- Autonomous Drive: Highly self-directed, possessing the technical courage to make high-stakes regulatory determinations independently or with the help of your US Compliance Manager in a fast-paced environment.
