About

Chelangat Faith is a Kenyan international trade and investment lawyer with a strong academic foundation and practical experience across African and global trade regimes. She holds an LL.M. in International Trade and Investment Law from the University of Pretoria, a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, and an LL.B. from Africa Nazarene University. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a certified mediator, and a Fellow of the Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration.
As a trade and investment lawyer, she brings a unique blend of legal expertise, policy insight, and regional experience to support governments, institutions, and private clients navigating Africa’s evolving trade landscape. With a strong grounding in international trade and investment law, backed by advisory roles with UNCTAD, UNDESA, AfCFTA institutions, and leading regional law firms, she specializes in market access, trade policy reform, cross-border investment structuring, and dispute resolution. Her work spans AfCFTA negotiations, investment protocol implementation, and trade-related legal harmonization. She translates complex legal frameworks into practical solutions, whether advising on treaty compliance, reviewing trade agreements, or identifying strategic opportunities in trade in goods, services, and digital commerce. She has engaged in high-level AfCFTA negotiations, including trade in services, financial services and rules of origin, and contributed to the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development. Her volunteerism roles include judging moot court competitions and mentoring students on trade disputes and regional integration law. She is fluent in English, Kiswahili, and French.
Faith has authored and contributed to several trade policy publications and presented at academic and policy forums. Her research projects have focused on AfCFTA implementation, the Guided Trade Initiative, investment mediation, and OECD-aligned debt restructuring mechanisms.
Faith is particularly passionate about empowering African economies to leverage rules-based trade and regional integration for sustainable development. With both private sector and multilateral experience, she offers a practical, data-informed approach to solving Africa’s trade and investment challenges in a rapidly shifting global landscape. With a blend of academic depth and on-the-ground experience, Faith is deeply committed to strengthening Africa’s trade and legal infrastructure, with a particular focus on inclusive development, legal harmonization, and capacity-building within the AfCFTA framework.
