About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Customs Manager to lead and manage our customs department, ensuring all import and export operations between Ireland, the UK, and the EU are fully compliant with current regulations. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving operational efficiency, managing a team of six, and ensuring accurate, timely customs declarations through Thyme IT and other relevant platforms. Experience with AEO certification processes is desired.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all customs operations, including import/export clearance across UK, Ireland, and EU.
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant customs legislation and regulations.
- Lead, coach, and support a team of approx. 6 customs operatives, ensuring high levels of accuracy and productivity.
- Act as the main point of contact for customs audits and regulatory bodies.
- Maintain and enhance use of Thyme IT for processing customs declarations.
- Monitor post-Brexit customs procedures, making continuous improvements to internal processes.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) applications and ongoing compliance with AEO standards.
- Liaise with transport, accounts, and operations teams to ensure smooth flow of goods and documentation.
- Monitor trade agreements, tariffs, and regulatory updates to provide internal guidance.
- Work with internal stakeholders to train and upskill staff on customs procedures and systems.
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a senior customs role, ideally within a transport or logistics company.
- Proven experience with Thyme IT and electronic customs declaration systems.
- Strong knowledge of customs legislation, particularly in relation to Ireland–UK–EU trade routes.
- Demonstrated experience managing or assisting with AEO certification.
- Leadership experience with the ability to effectively manage and develop a team.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Customs clearance or trade compliance certification is an advantage.
