Import Manager — Freight Forwarding
Responsible for overseeing all import operations to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods into the U.S. Coordinates cross-functional teams, manages vendor relationships, and drives continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end import operations including documentation, customs clearance, and delivery coordination across air, ocean, and trucking modes
- Ensure full compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, import laws, and trade compliance policies (e.g., ISF, FDA, FDA Prior Notice, TSCA)
- Lead coordination with customs brokers, carriers, warehouses, and internal teams to optimize supply chain flow and reduce dwell times
- Negotiate and maintain vendor agreements with carriers, customs brokers, and service providers to secure competitive rates and service levels
- Oversee cargo release, entry filing, and duty/tax calculation processes to ensure accuracy and timely clearance
- Analyze import data and KPIs to identify bottlenecks, cost savings opportunities, and operational risks; implement corrective actions
- Manage and develop the import operations team, providing training on compliance, systems, and best practices
- Collaborate with sales, procurement, and customer service teams to ensure seamless customer experience and issue resolution
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, and technology solutions impacting import logistics
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience managing import freight forwarding operations, preferably in a multi-modal environment
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. import regulations, customs compliance, and relevant documentation requirements
- Strong leadership and team management skills with a focus on operational excellence
- Proficient with import management systems and cargo tracking platforms
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
