Position Summary
The Director of Global Logistics is responsible for developing and executing Sycomp’s global logistics strategy to ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods across all regions. This role oversees shipping operations, manages strategic logistics partnerships, and drives continuous improvement through automation, compliance, and performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Define and implement Sycomp’s global shipping Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), including compliance validation and exception handling for local regulations.
- Develop long-term logistics strategies aligned with corporate objectives to optimize cost, speed, and service levels.
Operational Oversight
- Provide direct or dotted-line management to global logistics teams responsible for shipping Sycomp orders.
- Oversee warehousing, transportation, and distribution processes across multiple geographies.
- Implement health and safety procedures and ensure compliance with international trade regulations.
Performance & Compliance
- Define and track logistics KPIs to measure service quality and operational efficiency.
- Build and maintain a compliance document repository and HS code worksheet for global teams.
Vendor & Partner Management
- Manage relationships with strategic logistics partners globally, ensuring contracts are in place and pricing remains competitive.
- Negotiate freight contracts and service-level agreements to achieve cost savings and improve delivery performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Sales on strategic opportunities, validating deal structures and assigning resources for execution.
- Partner with Finance and Tax teams to ensure compliance with VAT/GST recovery and import/export regulations.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Regularly review organizational structure and implement changes to improve performance and coverage.
Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years in global logistics or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience working in an OEM, strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of international trade compliance, customs regulations, and Incoterms.
- Expertise in transportation management systems (TMS) and ERP platforms.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multimillion-dollar budgets.
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
Reporting Structure
Reports to: VP of Global Operations
Direct Reports: Regional Logistics Managers, Specialists, and Coordinators (40 reports, AMER, EMEA)
Travel requirements: 10%
