This UK Plc has a history dating back over 200 years. It manufactures specialised products used in variety of industries including renewable energy. It has a complex supply chain and significant international footprint, with operations in over 35 countries.
In this newly created role, reporting to the Global Tax Director, you will be the strategic customs subject matter expert. You will oversee efficient, accurate and compliant customs duty processes and indirect tax compliance. It will be part of your role to identify and support delivery of customs measures and opportunities which deliver profit and working capital benefits for the business. Acting as a trusted advisor and business partner, the role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements while enabling efficient global trade and supply chain operations.
Furthermore, you will provide governance, risk management, and policy direction, working closely with supply chain, finance, procurement, and external partners to anticipate challenges, optimise opportunities, and embed best practices across the global organisation.
Responsibilities:
- Establish, implement and maintain global policies and controls for customs and indirect tax compliance.
- Leading, identifying and developing efficient and accurate Customs compliant processes w
- Provide oversight of local customs brokers, tax advisors, and third-party service providers, ensuring quality and compliance in execution.
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on business operations.
- Act as a key advisor to supply chain, finance, procurement, and commercial teams on customs and indirect tax implications of business decisions.
- Support design of efficient cross-border supply chain models, considering customs duties, VAT/GST, excise, and related obligations.
- Partner with senior leadership on strategic projects such as new market entries.
- Ensure robust risk management processes for customs and indirect tax globally.
- Lead or support internal audits and compliance reviews.
- Engage with customs and tax authorities during audits, inquiries, or disputes.
- Identify and drive opportunities to optimise duty and tax costs.
- Collaborate with finance to enhance cash-flow management.
- Support technology-enabled solutions for customs and indirect tax oversight.
- Provide training and guidance to business stakeholders.
- Build awareness of compliance risks and value opportunities across functions.
About you:
- Minimum of 10+ years experience in customs and ideally indirect tax
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proven business partnering experienced gained in a complex multinational business
- Deep knowledge of global customs laws, VAT/GST, excise duties, and trade compliance frameworks.
