Job Title: Trade Compliance Manger (Global Divisional Responsibilities)
Salary: Starting from £88,251 (range depends on experience)
Location: Peterborough, UK.

About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. The Opportunity
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) is recruiting a Trade Compliance manager. IPSD is a global division with engines and gensets that are sustainably manufactured, marketed, sold, and supported under multiple brands. Manufacturing facilities span the globe including Brazil, China, India, UK, and the US. We provide a broad range of products and services to dealers, distributors, and end customers in over 100 countries.
This role will manage the division’s import and export compliance programs to ensure all import and export activities comply with various government laws and regulations. We are recruiting a leader with deep expertise in trade compliance activities that will have a passion for leading the division’s trade compliance, while working closely with a growing business.
What You Will Do
- Lead and manage the development, implementation and maintenance of import and export compliance policies and procedures.
- Promote best practices across global sites, establishing regional and functional councils.
- Develop and deliver a strategic program to build capability, across business process, data and technology solutions to ensure IPSD trade continues to operate effectively and compliantly.
- Oversee all import and export activities to ensure compliance with laws and regulations, consulting with legal and subject matter experts to resolve issues or concerns.
- Develop and execute risk assessments of import and export compliance programs to ensure that all sites follow established policies and procedures.
- Conduct training on government laws, rules and regulations as they pertain to organizational products, services and technologies.
- Partner with the business on the operational execution of various global trade requirements to functional areas of the business, working with subject matter experts to understand implications of new or revised trade policies.
- Support global sites in managing outsourced operations with brokers/transport providers and duty management solutions to ensure the end-to-end process is compliant.
- Support division with robust and proactive talent development and succession planning relating to trade-based roles.
- Engage proactively with internal business partners (Sales, Procurement, Supply Chain & Aftermarket) to ensure there is clarity and direction on trade compliance as it impinges on functional operations.
What You Have
- Trade Reporting: Knowledge and ability to implement trade reporting practices, processes, technologies, and controls.
- Import/Export - MFG: Knowledge of issues, procedures, tools and practices of importing and exporting; ability to import and export goods to and from international locations.
- International Trade: Knowledge of the markets, issues, regulations, practices and operations of international trade; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately in diverse situations.
- Operational Functions: Knowledge of major functional processes and associated operating requirements; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
- Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
- Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
What Will Set You Apart
- Progressive experience in operational trade compliance running import/export functions within multi-national organization
- Competently skilled in Trade compliance including global imports, exports, export controls, duty drawback & suspension.
- Passion for trade compliance - able to engage teams and create enthusiasm and interest to fuel continued improvement, innovation & business benefit.
- Proven leadership capability, both in direct management of business teams and in indirect leadership with business functions, peers and senior leadership
- Excellent communication skills - able to distil complex trade matters for varied audiences, including government and legislative functions.
- Ability to discern regulatory nuance and technicalities and their potential impact to a complex, global business.
- Excellent risk awareness and judgement - able to understand consequences of emerging legislation in a complex business and direct focus to where required to maintain compliance
- Proven portfolio manager - able to drive change within cross functional teams, including data, process and system evolution.
- Familiarity with software deployments or trade management / ERP systems.
- Must be intellectually curious with a capability to learn, contextualize and create logical reference frameworks
Additional Information
- Locations being considered: Peterborough (UK), Peoria (IL), Irving (TX), Schertz (TX) (please apply to the relevant post for your chosen location)
- Relocation: Domestic relocation considered for those that qualify
- Travel: Potentially international and domestic travel up to 25-50% of time
- Office Base: When not travelling, this role will be based from the office 5 days per week.
