The Sea Freight Coordinator is a pivotal role within the logistics and supply chain team, responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective transportation of goods over water. As a Sea Freight Coordinator, you will manage the day-to-day operations of sea freight shipments, from planning and scheduling to tracking and resolving any issues that may arise. You will work closely with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and customs officials to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and to facilitate smooth operations. Additionally, you will maintain robust communication with clients, providing them with updates and ensuring their needs are met. This role requires keen attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously. Your work will directly impact the company’s logistics efficiency and customer satisfaction levels.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and oversee the scheduling and shipment of sea freight consignments efficiently.
- Act as a liaison between clients, shipping lines, and customs to ensure compliance and timeliness.
- Prepare and manage all necessary documentation, including shipping instructions and customs declarations.
- Monitor the entire supply chain process to ensure timely and safe delivery of goods.
- Communicate with clients to provide regular updates on shipment status and address any concerns.
- Negotiate contracts and competitive rates with shipping lines and freight forwarders.
- Develop and implement procedures to optimize sea freight operations and reduce costs.
- Maintain accurate records of all sea freight shipments and related documentation.
- Identify potential shipping issues and implement solutions to mitigate risks and delays.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and legal standards consistently.
- Analyze sea freight data to improve future shipment strategies and operational performance.
- Collaborate with the logistics team to enhance overall supply chain management efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience in sea freight coordination or freight forwarding is essential.
- Strong understanding of global shipping regulations and international trade policies.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks.
- Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable shipping contracts and rates.
- Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite is highly desirable.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for client interactions.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all shipping and documentation processes.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to last-minute changes efficiently.
- Experience in managing complex supply chain logistics across multiple countries.
- Proactive problem-solving skills to address and resolve shipping challenges effectively.
- Willingness to continuously update knowledge of the logistics industry trends.
