Job Purpose:
The Heavy Vehicle Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods. This role requires strict adherence to traffic regulations, safety protocols, and company policies to ensure timely and secure deliveries.
Responsibilities:
• Always follow traffic safety rules and prescribed speed limits.
• Stop the vehicle only in designated and safe places.
• Report any defects in the vehicle and never drive a vehicle with technical issues.
• Perform daily vehicle checks and report any defects immediately.
• Be cautious while reversing, use a banksman, and avoid reversing whenever possible.
• Ensure delivery notes are printed before proceeding with any load.
• Operate according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
• Ensure compliance with Environment Health & Safety (EHS), Port & Customs, and other local authorities’ rules and regulations.
• Follow rules and regulations for driving inside client facilities.
• Report all incidents and accidents immediately.
• Always maintain full adherence to PPE requirements during working hours.
• Inform the manager about the near expiry of vehicle registration and driving license.
• Follow instructions for timely reporting for loading and offloading.
• Report any staff breaking company rules, theft, pilferage, accidents.
Knowledge & Skills
Educational and Technical Qualifications:
• Valid heavy vehicle driving license.
• Language skills: Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills and basic communication on English is required.
Years of experience: -
• 3-5 years minimum work experience as driver.
• Ability to work flexible hours and in shifts required.
Other requirements:
• Good physical fitness is required.
• Team player who can earn respect and is comfortable working in results-oriented environment.
• Valid heavy vehicle driving license.
Nature of experience:
• Proven experience as a heavy vehicle driver.
• Strong knowledge of traffic laws and regulations.
• Basic knowledge of vehicles maintenance.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks.
