Position Summary
The National Trade Compliance Manager is responsible, in conjunction with the Asst VP of Customs Operations to establish, maintain and distribute nationally NNR’s Standard Operating Procedures for all Brokerage functions. Will monitor and interpret changes in Customs and other Government Agency Regulations. The changes are outlined and shared with the Brokerage team to continually follow proper procedure and guidelines.
About the Role
The National Trade Compliance Manager will oversee the compliance and operational aspects of customs brokerage, ensuring adherence to regulations and providing guidance to the team.
Responsibilities
- Establish written Internal Controls and Standard Operating Procedures for Brokerage department.
- Provide audit/assessment tools for Asst. VP of Customs Operations for all Brokerage functions.
- Provide training and job aids for CBP, FDA, and other Participating Government Agencies.
- Provide reasonable supervision and control guidelines to all Customs Permit Qualifiers (District Customs Broker, District Broker, Import Manager, Assistant Import Manager).
- Review Government news, updates and Regulatory changes daily and communicate same to Brokerage and Import teams.
- Update Client Parts/HTS lists in Brokerage software application, as needed.
- Generate Custom Brokerage reports for clients using Data Warehouse and vNEXT programs.
- Sell value added Compliance services.
- Perform client consulting on customs clearance and export/import trade issues.
- Responsible for interpreting and executing U.S. Customs and other government agency trade policies and regulations.
- Ensure consistency and compliance of Customs Brokerage practices across all NNR sites offering Brokerage services.
- Provide C-TPAT program support in conjunction with the Asst VP of Customs Operations and National Security and Compliance Manager.
- Manage and oversee Participating Government Agency (PGA) client inquiries.
- Assume role of Trade Account Alternate in U.S. Customs Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system.
- Ability to supervise, manage and instruct other personnel.
- Comply at all times with NNR USA standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient business operations.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
Qualifications
- College degree or equivalent and/or related experience in a related field preferred.
- Currently licensed by CBP as a customs broker, with no pending penalties or restrictions on operating as a broker.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a licensed customs broker.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in importing or freight forwarding business.
- Solid math skills to calculate duties and freight, storage, and other charges.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment, including personal computers and to conduct paperless entry of goods through the Automated Commercial Environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Physical requirements
- Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, frequently and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Drive to and from local ports, warehouses, and consignees to transact customs business and effect the transportation and storage of goods.
- Sufficient near vision to read and write information accurately.
- The position is generally sedentary, other than local travel.
