MAJOR FUNCTIONS
The Procurement Engineer will be responsible for end-to-end procurement of final building products, with a primary focus on fixtures, fittings, finishes, and FF&E for construction and fit-out projects. The procurement Engineer would be responsible for identifying and sourcing finished, installation-ready products used in office, commercial, and interior build environments including Sanitary ware, Electrical fixtures, Finishes, FF&E (office desks, chairs, meeting tables, cabinetry, storage, reception furniture) and Lighting fixtures.
The role requires strong supplier management, sourcing intelligence, and excellent negotiation skills, with priority given to candidates with deep exposure to Chinese markets, suppliers, and manufacturing hubs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Procurement & Sourcing
- Source, evaluate, and procure final products, not raw construction materials.
- Handle procurement for fixtures, fittings, finishes, and FF&E required for the construction of new office buildings and commercial spaces.
- Review product catalogues, technical datasheets, and compliance documents to ensure suitability.
- Coordinate mock-ups, material samples, and showroom visits for approval
- Coordinate with design, MEP, and fit-out teams to confirm product specifications.
- Conduct market benchmarking across the region, GCC, and China to secure competitive pricing.
China Market Expertise
- Maintain an active supplier network across key Chinese regions (Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shanghai, etc.).
- Coordinate directly with Chinese vendors, factories, and trading agents to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
- Oversee quality inspections either directly or through third parties.
- Develop cost benchmarks and supply intelligence based on Chinese market trends, logistics routes, and seasonal variations.
- Ensure all procured items meet required quality, finish level, and technical specifications.
Contracting & Commercial Evaluation
- Review commercial terms, compare supplier offers, and prepare award recommendations.
- Negotiate and finalise purchase agreements, ensuring the best commercial value.
- Monitor procurement risks, price fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions, proposing mitigation strategies.
Logistics & Delivery Coordination
- Plan and track international shipments and local deliveries to sites.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs agents, and project teams to avoid delays.
- Maintain up-to-date delivery tracking logs and proactively escalate risks.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure procurement documentation complies with internal procedures.
- Maintain approved vendor lists, sourcing databases, and material logs.
- Work closely with QA/QC to ensure materials meet required specifications.
Minimum Professional Experience Required
- 5–10 years of experience in procurement related to construction and fit-out projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or related field) or Supply Chain Management
- Proven experience sourcing materials and equipment from China, with strong supplier contacts and negotiation capability.
- Solid understanding of construction materials, finishes, MEP items, sanitary ware and FF&E.
- Experience managing international procurement, imports, logistics, and customs clearance is preferred.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to travel to China for supplier audits, factory visits, or trade fairs (if required).
- Strong network within the Chinese building materials and manufacturing ecosystem in the region and beyond.
- Ability to multitask across parallel procurement packages in fast‑track projects
