Job Purpose:
To serve as the main on-site representative of the chandlery company on board vessels during port calls. The Boarding Officer is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of ship supplies and provisions, coordinating port formalities, collecting requisitions, and maintaining client satisfaction through effective communication and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend vessels at port or anchorage on arrival to liaise with the Master, Chief Cook, and other officers regarding ordered supplies and additional requirements.
- Coordinate and supervise the delivery of provisions, bonded stores, technical items, engine spares, deck consumables, and safety equipment.
- Check and verify delivery quantities and quality against requisition or purchase order before handover.
- Collect feedback from ship crew and officers regarding service quality, product satisfaction, and potential complaints or discrepancies.
- Handle urgent supply needs or missing items by coordinating with the operations and procurement teams to arrange immediate delivery.
- Ensure timely submission of documents such as delivery notes, supply checklists, master receipt confirmations, etc.
- Liaise with port authorities for boarding clearance, entry permits, and customs declarations where necessary.
- Promote company services and maintain a professional and helpful relationship with shipowners, managers, and crew to secure repeat business.
- Prepare daily visit reports and assist in documentation required for billing and inventory control.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Maritime, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field (preferred).
- 4+ years of experience in ship supply, chandlery operations, or marine agency services and proven sales record.
- Good knowledge of marine supplies, consumables, and technical stores.
- Familiarity with port procedures and maritime documentation.
- UAE driving license required.
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve supply issues promptly.
- Physically fit to carry out vessel boardings and supervise deliveries on deck.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Fluent in English (spoken & written) is must; knowledge of other seafarer languages is a plus.
- Customer-service oriented and confident in dealing with senior ship officers.
Work Conditions:
- Field-based role; frequent travel to ports and anchorage points.
- Requires flexible work hours including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Must be comfortable working in hot, humid, or rough weather conditions.
