Position Title: Associate, Competition & Regulated Markets

To ensure that we have the right structures in place to support the achievement of our goals we are currently recruiting for a new and exciting role of Associate in our Competitions & Regulated Markets group.
McCann FitzGerald’s Competition, Regulated Markets, EU & Trade Law Group combines comprehensive experience and wide-ranging expertise in merger clearance, 'dominant firm' issues, cartel defence, State aid and sector regulation (e.g., telecoms, gas, media), as well as in other areas of EU law (including free movement and customs law). Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate would be part of a team advising on:
- EU and Irish merger control, as well as other regulatory approval processes (such as foreign investment controls), in M&A transactions across multiple sectors, including managing multi-jurisdictional merger control processes
- Advising existing clients from across the public and private sectors on application of EU and Irish competition law to their businesses
- Assisting clients in responding to regulatory/competition law inquiries including in response to enforcement action such as dawn raids and witness summonses
- Advising businesses and senior executives on potential civil and criminal liability and prosecution risk for corporate crimes
- Advising on EU State aid rules
- Advising on Irish communications, broadcasting, and other sector specific regulatory regimes
- Advising on EU law generally and international trade law
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- A minimum of 2-4 years PQE with a particular focus on EU and/or Irish competition law (or equivalent national competition law). Experience of State aid law and sectoral regulation desirable but not essential
- A strong technical and academic interest and ability in the area
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and decision-making with an ability to push through projects
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- A strong interest in maintaining, developing and sharing relevant legal knowledge
Education
The successful candidate will:
- Have an excellent academic record
- Be qualified as a solicitor Ireland and / or England and Wales
