Job Description
The Aviation Security Inspector - Coordination works as part of the wider Aviation Security Team within the Coordination division. The Aviation Security Inspector provides expert analysis and guidance to inform the development and implementation of aviation security policies. The Inspector researches issues, evaluates data, and drafts technical advice recommendations, consultation papers and guidance material. The role will also support the management team in navigating the regulatory processes, communicating with stakeholders and staying informed on trends.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Aviation Security Inspector - Coordination role includes the following responsibilities:
- Policy Development: Lead and support the creation of internal policy proposals, including researching and analysing issues, trends, and data to inform regulatory decision-making and technical advice
- Regulatory Analysis: Conduct in-depth assessments of current regulations and propose changes or updates based on emerging issues, trends and stakeholder feedback
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with internal teams, industry groups, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to gather input, disseminate information, and ensure policies are aligned with industry needs and regulatory goals
- Advisory Support: Provide expert advice and recommendations to the Management and Coordination teams on complex policy and regulatory matters
- Advise the Aviation Security Coordination Manager on specific or general matters relating to aviation security
- Impact Assessment: Analyse the potential regulatory, economic, operational and legal impacts of proposed policies, ensuring they align with broader regulatory objectives and deliver intended outcomes
- Briefing and Reporting: Prepare reports, briefings, and presentations on regulatory matters for the management team, government bodies, and external partners
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Track the implementation and effectiveness of policies and regulations, recommending adjustments or enhancements as necessary
- Guidance material and Best Practices: Ensure that proposed policies are in line with legal and statutory requirements and align with best practices within the sector
- Assist in the delivery of aviation security related training to industry
- Attain and maintain aviation security certification or other certification as may be required or appropriate
- Attain and maintain security clearance from the National Security Authority
- Work across the Coordination and Implementation teams, collaborating on a project basis and adjusting to evolving business priorities and operational demand.

Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of policy, regulatory frameworks and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders to craft well-informed policy recommendations and technical advice. They will provide expert guidance on the development, implementation, and evaluation of regulation that align with our objectives and enhance the effectiveness of our work.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications and skills:
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in regulatory, compliance, audit, law enforcement or aviation security environment
- Knowledge of the framework of international organisations relevant to aviation security including the European Commission, ICAO and ECAC.
- Knowledge of IAA stakeholder roles and regulatory processes
- Demonstrable, strong qualitative and quantitative research ability in order to conduct reviews, identify emerging trends and risks and use that data to support policy proposals
- Flexibility to undertake remote aviation security duties at external, national or international locations including occasional travel and work outside standard hours (such as evenings, weekends or early morning) as business needs arise. The IAA has policies in place to support flexible working and work–life balance
- Have excellent written & oral communication skills with the ability to professionally engage and communicate clearly with a diverse group of stakeholders
- The ability to recognise, build and manage critical relationships
- Excellent time management skills with proven record on prioritisation of tasks. Ability to operate to tight timeframes under pressure
- Exhibits professionalism, integrity and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively, independently or as part of a team
- Excellent IT skills & working knowledge of Office 365 and Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Microsoft SharePoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to familiarise and become proficient with specialist software is also required.
Desirable
- Experience in the application and / or oversight of implementation of aviation security requirements
- Knowledge of national aviation security regulations
- Knowledge of Security and / or Safety Management Systems
- Project management qualification or relevant professional experience
